Detail by owner
Up for sale is this 1962 Volkswagen Sunroof bug. This vehicle was purchased new at Irv Gould Volkswagen in Santa Cruz, CA and has spent it's entire life in this area and under the ownership of one family. This vehicle has been used sparingly over the past 15+ years and although it didn't move much over this time frame, it was regularly started and ran in the garage.

The bug was recently pulled out of it's long hibernation and freshened up to bring it back into daily driving status. Recent work and new items include: All new brakes (wheel cylinders, flex lines, master cylinder, brake shoes, etc.), front inner and outer wheel bearings, front and rear axle/wheel seals, new tires mounted and balanced, battery, front and rear shocks, fuel lines, steering damper, engine and transmission mounts, engine service (tune up, oil change, valve adjustment, and detail), exterior and interior detailed, all electrical gone through and brought to full working order, NOS German muffler installed, and more. This bug runs and drives well, everything works as it should, and it is still 6 volt as when it left the factory.

Transmission shifts smooth through all gears, all lights, turn signals, fuel gauge, speedometer, horn, wipers, brakes, etc. all function as intended. Both original keys are still present and only one key needed to work door lock and ignition switch as when it left the factory. In the early 90's this bug had a quality exterior repaint and interior restoration in the original color scheme. The seats, headliner, sunroof, and front carpets were done at that time and are still in very good condition for their age and further show how well this bug was cared for over the years of ownership by the family. Interior paint, door panels, and rear luggage shelf carpet are all originals.

There are no signs of any serious accidents. Overall the bug is very dry with the floor pans being original and in excellent condition. There are some lights signs of rust with a couple of minor bubbles in a few areas, but nothing that needs immediate attention to be enjoyed and driven for years as is. On the passenger B-pillar the lower part of the headliner was torn when the previous owner had the neighbors son change the battery out for her as he didn't know how to remove the seat properly. Overall this is a very good looking survivor bug that gets plenty of looks and appreciation wherever it goes and is sure to bring it's new family years of enjoyment as it did for the original family. Included with the sale: Clear California title, original owners manual and service booklet, original keys, both original California black license plates, DAV matching black plate key tag, original tool roll and jack
